Movable Type Woes
Pardon me while I rant.
I am so sick of this stuff. For some reason, on March 27th, things for the journals just BROKE. The journals were still alive and well, we just couldn't get to the admin page to do anything with it. I spent hours on this. We got this error:
Got an error: Missing configuration file. Maybe you forgot to move mt-config.cgi-original to mt-config.cgi?
And, I have been too busy with work and life to do any monkeying around with movable type stuff. So, WTF? My web host, that I still love - they are way better than my last web host!! - had a raid server change, but as far as they knew, everything should have been working.
I even attempted an upgrade to version 4.1, but still got the same error. After my frustration with that, I actually installed WordPress, which was frustration free because my host has a package that you just click on a link to install. But, once I got it installed, I looked at the "Hello World" post and was overcome with frustration again, because it was another blank slate. Just like the one I was presented with on my birthday last year from the stupid previous web host. (Reminds me, I never sent my rant email to their "feedback" email address. But, I don't want to dig up the hatred I have for them right now.)
After MORE searching, I finally found the right track for a fix here:
http://orangescale.net/blognotes/movable-type/movable-type-troubleshooting-base-class-package-dataobjectdriverbaseobject-is-empty/
I tried this in my 4.1 tree, but because some plugins are not compatible, this failed miserably. By then, it was 1am and I was extremely frustrated and ready to just throw the towel in for good with journaling and MT. But, my wise and beloved husband had a great idea, which was to watch some TV and go to bed. So we did.
Then, this morning, I had a moment of clarity. I mean, a Duh moment. I implemented the fix from the above link into the original 3.2 installation.
And guess what? Obviously, because I'm typing this entry, it worked!
Cora can have her addiction back. But, prepare for an upgrade to 4.1. I'll back everything up first, but just in case, you might want to do the same.
Is this really worth it??!!
