A New Favorite

- Maroon 5 Lyrics

I had never heard this song, "Won't Go Home Without You" by Maroon 5 before Bill asked me who sang it, and since then, it's been one of my new favorite songs. So very catchy. It's funny because we were in Whataburger the other night and this song came on. I think the person sitting behind me was singing, Bill was singing, and a young girl was singing and dancing to it in a booth in my line of sight. Love it!

Hawaii McDonalds

Many Hawaii McDonald's Drive-Throughs Use Workers In Texas - Money News Story - KITV Honolulu

Cora told me about this yesterday, and I didn't really believe her. But, sure enough, here's an article that talks about drive-through order taking being outsourced from Hawaii. Seems very silly to me, but as long as the jobs in Hawaii are not reduced because of it, great! I'll have to remember this when I am there in a couple of weeks... when I get my fruit punch.

When will they start selling spam musubi?!

Breakfast of Little Champions

I was looking in the pantry for something for Billy to have for breakfast. I came up with applesauce and mixed fruit. But, Billy spied something WAY better. Mini Yakko arare.

Since there is no reasoning with him yet and denying him would only result in a massive shrieking fit, he got a little bowl with a little bit of arare. The entire time he was eating the tasty bits, he was expressing his pleasure, "mmm mmm mmm!!"

You have to hear and see him to appreciate this. We went to Friendly's the other night for a bite to eat, and he was VERY exuberant in his Mmm Mmm Mmm'ing. Kind of embarrassing, but so cute. At least he wasn't screaming and crying (at the moment).

So, there you go. Mini Yakko arare, the breakfast of little champions.

All Roads Lead to...

all_roads_lead_to_mommy.jpg We've heard of the saying that all roads lead to Rome. Yesterday I had a good laugh as I swiveled my chair away from my desk to get up, and saw this sight. The view is skewed, since I am obviously not in the chair anymore, but yes. In this house, all roads lead to Mommy!

Discovery Launch, STS-124

While Bill's dad was here, he was hoping to see the shuttle launch. Unfortunately, he's spent the entire time he's been here in the hospital, aside from about the first 15 he was here. Luckily though, he was able to get out of the hospital (not discharged, just OUT) to view the shuttle launch yesterday.

Here's Billy, with the shuttle in front of him.
IMG_4830.JPG

The STS-124 mission is primarily for delivering the pressurized module and Japanese robotic arm to the International Space Station. What else is very cool? My friend from school (Chris) is in a very successful punk band (The Phenomenauts), and they will be part of the mission as well. Follow this link to read on...

Deep Sea Fishing

On Saturday I finally got to go deep sea fishing! We woke up at 5am, headed out the door at 6am, and made it to Port Canaveral at 7am. Found our Captain and the First Mate and boarded the 28' boat.

It was a beautiful, sunny day. It wasn't too bad when we started moving. It really felt great on our way out in the morning because we were in the shade of the cabin and the wind was whipping in our faces. I only felt like I was going to puke once, which was amazing. Luckily, I didn't puke and I managed to down a couple more dramamine and a couple of pretzels. Fresh moving air does wonders for queasiness.

We were probably about 18 miles offshore. I'm not sure exactly though, except for the first time we stopped, the Captain said we were about 14 miles out. Then we went out another 1.5 miles, and then we moved out again, but I am not sure how far.

The first fish was mine. A big barracuda that bitch-slapped me with his tail when the first mate held him up for picture time. It was hard reeling him in, but was so much fun.
First catch of the day, my barracuda

The second one was Bill's King Mackerel. Unfortunately, all that was hauled up on the boat was the head since something got to it first before he pulled it all the way in. His was about 200 yards out.

We took turns reeling them in. I caught a Barracuda, and two King Mackerels. Bill caught two King Mackerels and a Bonita. The barracuda was released, the mackerel head was "released", and the Bonita was kept by the Captain (I guess).
I think this is the bonita:
IMG_4788.JPG

Here we are, at the end of the fishing day with our remaining catch:
IMG_4809.JPG

As if all this wasn't eventful enough, we were stopped by the Coast Guard. I think it was because we crossed into an off-limits zone and it was a launch day (Discovery Shuttle). For about 10 minutes we were under scrutiny by the United States Coast Guard. Our boat was boarded by 3 men in full gear. We were finally sent on our merry way, and thank goodness too, because it was damned hot and the wind felt so good when we were really moving.
The Coast Guard

All in all, I had a fabulous time, and hope we get to do it again. I asked if they ever get yellow-fin tuna, and the mate said yes, but they have to go out about 70 to 100 miles. Yikes. Thanks to my dear Bill for this wonderful day, it's one for the books!

-- Addendum --
Okay, apparently I needed to do some research before I went fishing, because I think the fish (bonita) that the Captain said was "awful to eat" was an aku. Anyone? Is Bonita the same as Bonito the same as aku??? UGH. I am so mad.

Iron Man

I forgot to write about Iron Man! Bill and I had the pleasure of an outing by ourselves, sans baby, thanks to my wonderful mother-in-law. We chose to see Iron Man. I had no idea what the movie was about, or couldn't even remember if I had seen any trailers for it. I saw RDJ was in it, and thought it couldn't be that bad, now could it??

It was FABULOUS. I loved it. It was funny, full of great effects, and had RDJ and Mrs. Coldplay in it (Gwyneth). Definitely a must see if you enjoy comic strip movies. I'll be buying it when it comes out on DVD, for sure. The actors were enjoyable. I didn't even realize Jeff Bridges was in it until he started talking.

One of the previews was for some weird movie with Ben Stiller, RDJ, and Jack Black, and looked like it was filmed in Hawaii (Koolau Ranch, maybe?). Anyhow, that is one RDJ movie that is maybe a must-not-see. Or, maybe a Netflix movie. We'll see.

Pimp My Ride

Since we put the new hardwood floors in, we're very conscious of the rough nature of Billy's ride-on toys' wheels. So, I improvised...

Pimp my ride, Mommy!

This is my first attempt, which has worked wonderfully. I attached industrial strength velcro to the wheels and attached strips I cut from a bath rug I purchased for this task. Fabulous! And oh, so funny!

If you live... (PayPal's Evil Side)

So, a few months ago I was pulling laundry out of the washing machine. I am so horrible about removing items from my pockets, especially now that Billy hands everything under the sun to me to hold. So, what do I find at the bottom of the washing machine? My Motorola Bluetooth headset. :-(

It is a great little device, and needless to say, it died that day. It gave me a little hope when I plugged it in to charge, and the little light came on, but... it was false hope, and I am pretty sure I fried the circuitry.

I picked up some Jabra headsets around Christmas, and started using one of them after my Bluetooth died. The Jabra just doesn't hold a candle to the H700, let me tell you. So, I finally bid on one on eBay. It was a guaranteed win, and I immediately paid for my item. Well, that was on April 23rd, and I still have not received the item, even though the seller provided me with a tracking number, which shows that USPS was notified of shipment on April 25th. So, it's been over two weeks since I purchased it, and it's been just about two weeks since the tracking number was given to me.

No headset. I'm quite annoyed by now. I paid $9.99 for shipping!! And, it's only going from New Jersey to Florida!!

I've been in contact with the seller, and he knows I was still waiting. I sent a notice to him today that if I don't get it tomorrow, I'm going to start the process on PayPal for refund. So, I just investigated this, since I don't remember the process. This is an excerpt from the Resolution Center/Reporting a Problem or Filing a Complaint page:

If you live , you can file a general complaint if you are unsatisfied with the level of service you received from PayPal. Your complaint will be routed to a PayPal Customer Service representative who will respond to your complaint.

... "If you live "???

That's pretty funny. And scary... Meet PayPal's evil side!

Daughtry

I'm so sad. I just, by chance, saw on Thursday morning that Chris Daughtry is going to be at the King Center this coming Tuesday. They moved the show that was going to be in Sebastian to Melbourne. The King Center is about 2 miles from here!

So, my plan was to get online and purchase a ticket when sales began at 10. Then I found out/remembered that Bill was going to be in Miami. So, that was the first level of bummation. Then I decided the heck with it, I'd try to get a ticket anyway. 10AM rolled around and after multiple tries, TicketMaster just didn't have any tickets. Bummer on top of BUMMER.

I would have really loved to be at that show.

Oh well. I'm not going to pay an arm and a leg to a scalper, so I guess I'll just have to settle for my Daughtry on iTunes.

Gaiam - Eww, Ooh, Neat, Cool! (Coupon Code, too)

Ok. I just wrote and entry and blew it away when I clicked on a link I didn't mean to click on. Grr!

Anyhow, I ran across this website, Gaiam.com that had a few items I thought was worth a mention here.

Toilet Lid Sink - First thought? Ewwww!! Second thought? Ewwww!!! But, how brilliant! I wonder how many of these they sell.

Opal Soap Rock - this is beautiful!

Moonphase Clock - very interesting clock. Thought of sis.

Crystal Salt Lamp - I don't get how this works, doesn't say if there's a bulb in there or what. Pretty, and interesting too. If I was a rich (wo)man, I'd buy this just to check it out.

Oh well. I made a purchase since there was free shipping on orders over $40 (coupon code AFJD), but didn't get any of the items above. I'd love to tell what I got, but it's a secret ya know.

I do love this site. Never heard of it before, but very cool.

Over the Weekend

Recently, Billy has been doing some things that amuse me and surprise me. I posted previously about the deviousness of my child. Last night, he did something that made me laugh and then left me feeling a little strange. He had just finished his bath and I had him on the changing table for the nightly ritual of getting dressed, lotion, brushing teeth, etc. He is a "big boy" now and wanted to do the lotion himself. He's been struggling to get the bottle cap open, and he's now mastered that, but now he just can't figure out how to get the lotion out of the bottle (thank god). So, he's sitting there turning the bottle upside down and pressing it on his legs and arms. He's getting a little annoyed, and apparently I was too close to the bottle and he thought I was going to interfere. He grabbed my hand, pushed my hand away from him, and then pointed to the bathroom. He did this two or three times. I was amazed. He was trying to tell me to go away. Of course, the longer I sit here and think about it, the sadder it makes me. Ah well. It's inevitable, right?!

I bought this bottle of bubble bath from Target the other day. It's Thomas the Tank Engine berry-scented bubble bath, and it had a light up figurine that came with it. Totally cool!! You touch the sensors at the bottom, or put the sensors in water, and the lights inside turn on and makes for a glowy Thomas. It broke at the beginning of his second bath using the toy. Doesn't light up anymore. Awww!

Anyway, thank god Bill is coming home tonight. He's somewhere over the ocean, maybe around Hawaii by now, on the way to LAX. Finally. Those international trips are horrendous.

Have a great week...

Bones

I started watching Bones (thanks sis), and it's episode 4 on disc 1. They're doing the autopsy of the guy and girl, and you can clearly see the dead girl is still breathing.

Geez.

Meanwhile, too funny! Love the courier storyline & Angela. I'm still giggling.

Season Seven Idols - Men

Time for my favorite idols!

1. David Archuleta - I love how he is just beside himself when he receives the praises of the judges. Great voice. Can't wait to hear more.
2. Jason Castro - I didn't agree with Simon this week, or any of the judges. I thought he had a great performance, great vocal. I thought he was one of the best tonight.
3. Luke Menard - tough song, as most Queen songs are. He did great. Doesn't he look like Orlando Bloom?!
4. Michael Johns - Not such a great performance tonight, unfortunately. Sounds like his voice kept cracking through the song.
5. Robbie Carrico - not so great this week. Still waiting for him to pull out the stops.

Danny Noriega is definitely this years Sanjaya. Ugh-o. Waiting to be impressed with his vocal. He killed the Carpenters song. David Hernandez was good , but not a favorite. I hated the Chikezie song and the Jason Yeager song. I've forgotten one...Oh, the other David. He was okay.

Poor Simon, he keeps getting dissed by Ryan with the closing comments. I think it's been 3 episodes so far that Ryan neglects to thank Simon. Funny the first time, not so funny anymore.

Florida Fun

Glad we didn't get hit with the massive power outage. Apparently there's a huge outage in Florida, 4.4 million affected.

In other news, a woman found half a frog (the top half) in her caesar salad from an unnamed restaurant. Someone posted this on the forum regarding the article.

What's worse than finding a frog in your food? Half a frog!

OMG that is just too funny.

Other comments: "Is she OK? Does anyone know if she CROAKED?"

"No, but she 'hopped' right over to her attorney's office!"

Free Music

This may very well be the worst preview for a song ever. After listening to the clip, my face was so scrunched up. Wow. The song is free from Amazon, though after listening to the clip, they couldn't pay me to download it.

The nice thing is that Dashboard Confessional and KT Tunstall have free downloads too. There's even some Sophie Milman for Cora. I downloaded the KT Tunstall Drastic Fantastic album after listening to the clips, and I really love most of the album. It was only $5.99!

Trying to Keep Up

Trying to keep up with posting more regularly. It feels like the past few days (weeks?) have been frenzied with multiple projects keeping me busy.

Coming down to the wire with the enhancement specs. The numbers are dwindling, and there's a light at the end of the tunnel, but meanwhile... ugh. Other projects include Christmas shopping, website stuff, Christmas present-making... too much!

Watched We Are Marshall tonight. Great flick. Matthew McConaughey was a bit much with talking out of the side of his mouth, but still enjoyable as the coach. Enjoyed the rest of the cast as well. Nicely done. We pass through WV on the way up to NY, and as depicted in the movie, it is quite picturesque. Never really enjoy it when we're passing through though. Especially the bit where we have to drive through the town Summersville. You're going at a nice pace, and then get stuck driving through the town, traffic lights and all.

Made Smores Cookie Bars tonight using a recipe from the Hershey cookbook. Yuck. I guess "yuck" because I used marshmallows instead of marshmallow creme (is there a difference?! apparently so!). So the marshmallows basically melted and made a nice chewy candy caramel in certain places. The rest of the cookie bar was much like a chocolate chip cookie, but not. Oh well. Will not likely make that again.

Hawaii Warriors: PERFECT!!

Congratulations to the Hawaii Warriors!!!!

It was scary in the first half, but they managed to come back. Colt & the offense did their job, and the Defense managed to close the deal for a 35-28 win, Second to the last play was an amazing interception in the end zone (whew, thank goodness).

Whee!! Can't wait to see the results for BCS.

Smallville Season DVDs - Price Alert!

I LOVE Smallville - You know I love to despise Lana, and season 7 has been pretty interesting so far even though some of the more interesting characters have gone away. The seasons have been getting progressively stranger. Some ways good, some not so much. Anyway, back to my point here.

So, check this out. Amazon has the first 5 seasons at a really excellent price. Maybe it's comparable to local stores, but not sure. Great time to complete your collection, I guess. Current prices for seasons 1, 2, 4, and 5 are $14.99!!! Seasons 3 is $23.99 (dunno, don't ask me), and Season 6 is $38.99.

Cora forwarded this to me, and I love this. I haven't had the time to get the lyrics (lord, who has? there's a lot of lyrics here!), but I love this woman's song. Too funny.

Transformers

I never watched Transformers when I was a kid. I was only familiar with it since it was one of Nate's favorite cartoons. But, the movie trailers looked fantastic, and I was looking forward to watching this (on dvd, of course). We ended up buying the Transformers (Two-Disc Special Edition) and watched it tonight.

Fabulous movie!! I loved watching the autobots. The movie was packed with action, comedy, and outstanding effects. The prequel was ho-hum to me, probably because I was not too into the still pictures making up the "movie". But, it provided some background info for me, the Transformer-know-nothing. Lots of familiar faces in the show. I got a kick out of seeing Aaron Pierce from 24 and Fernando Sucre from Prison Break.

All in all, I'm glad we bought this dvd set. We'll watch it again, I'm sure! Entertain me? Yes, it did!
